Synth Explorer returns to Loopmasters but they take a break from Synthesis for their third instalment as they voyage into Drum Machine territory with a very twisted collection of Beats and Drum Shots from the often overlooked Roland TR505.

Whilst many of you analogue purists will be scoffing at the idea this machine could come toe to toe with a TR909, the raw digital sounds of the Roland TR505 come alive with a little help of circuit bends and extra processing so before you make an early judgement listen up and hear how we have transformed the sounds of this unassuming rhythm machine into the ultimate urban beat terrorist.

The TR505 was released in 1986 and was intended as a budget portable drum machine featuring 16 crunchy 12Bit samples including Kick, Snare, Toms, Rim Shot, Hi Hats, Crash and Ride Cymbals and some basic percussion sounds. It featured an on-board sequencer with 5 basic modes of operation including Track Play, Track Write, Step Write, Tap Write and Real Time.

This edition of Vintage Explorer features loop and one shot samples covering a wide range of sounds perfect for Techno, Dubstep, Drum & Bass or even Experimental Electronica. The collection features an inspiring range of one shot sounds that have been sourced directly from a real TR505 but you will have never heard a TR505 sound like this before as we have tormented this digital beast with a range of tonal tweaks in the form of DIY circuit bends and heavy use of external processing from Distortion, Phaser, Delay, Reverb and Flanger and well anything that made it sound RUDER!

Niche Audio is proud to present another top notch Genre Specific Maschine & Ableton Live pack. ‘Dubstep Supercharged’ – is a collection of 15 totally authentic Dubstep kits for a new generation of Dubsteppers. Taking its lead from artists such as Barely Alive, Zomboy, Pegboard Nerds, Skrillex, Must Die, Far Too Loud, and 501, the packs sound focusses on the clubbier side of the genre.

Dubstep Supercharged was primarily designed for the ultimate hands on experience when used in conjunction with a pad controller, or keyboard. All sounds are meticulously created and sampled one shots which then utilise choke groups enabling sounds to be cut off at the precise moment another sound/pad is triggered. The result is instant inspiration and gratification infusing the user with the ability to create mind boggling variations in real time. Jamming the samples via your pads or your keyboard in real time is a highly addictive and enjoyable experience – we guarantee it!

Producers can also use any of the 13 kits or, 13 colour coded projects as a starting point to get their ideas down fast. Easily edit some midi notes, perhaps swap some samples and within minutes a completely new kit and pattern has emerged indistinguishable from the original. Whilst you can use any BPM you wish, the pack was designed around the optimum Dubstep tempo of 140.

Expect to find 13 Kits with 16 samples in each, including processed Drums, Piercing Basses, Hard Hitting Wobbles and Mid Tones, Chords, Vocal Hits and Special FX. Also included are 13 colour coded projects to act as a starting point for your productions. 2 special kits which feature a bank of vocal hits and Special FX samples for additional sample layering. Loopmasters proudly welcome David Osborne with an exclusive set of edgy live beats suited to many electronic styles of music including Dubstep, Drum & Bass, House, Hip Hop, Garage and Breaks.

Unless your Bradley Wiggins not many people can say they ride to work on their work, so the idea of mounting an acoustic Drum Kit on bicycle isn’t a thought that enters most peoples head, however Australian Born David came up with the idea whilst fixing a puncture in London’s Green Park, staring at the upturned frame the thought “my drums could fit on there” hit him and Puncture Kit was born.

Dave’s unusual drum kit is no gimmick, it is a fully functioning bike and how he transports his gear around he simply rocks up on his bike, unloads the drums, flips the bike upside down and bolts them back on ready to play.

Due to the physical size of a bicycle the instruments need to be compact, however the small sizes and quirky percussion pieces happen to create the perfect tones, frequencies and dynamics for the type of sounds found in modern electronic music.

A typical Puncture Kit live show could be either David performing solo or an original bass heavy electronic set that travels from Hip Hop, Funk, Jazz, Dubstep, Breakbeat and Jungle using David’s own backing tracks to accompany him.

His dynamic performances at festivals, events and private shows have included The 2013 Tour De France, The BRIT Awards after party 2013 at London’s 02 Arena, solo support act for bands such as Florence and The Machine, The Black Keys and Bombay Bicycle Club, The London 2012 Olympic Games Cycling Race and Glastonbury Dance Village and busking to surprised crowds in Oxford Street.

Teaming up with Alex Pettman of Debut Audio Mastering, the collection was recorded at Studio 284 in Brighton using a large selection of vintage mics and a whole range of traditional and unconventional techniques to capture the right live drum sound with an edgy modern twist.

All manner of tricks and experiments were used including old t-shirts on drums and cymbals to add artificial damping, old cracked cymbals on top of snare drums for trashy backbeats, kick drums stuffed with toys or played with warped skins…anything to replicate and mimic unique electronic drum sounds that could then be played with the real swing of a live drummer.
